The Advanced Materials Processing Center is a state of the art research and development facility for laser processing of materials. The mandate of the AMPC is develop innovations in laser materials processing that address the critical needs of our customers. In the current economy, companies are under increased pressure to develop new products quickly while keeping development and manufacturing costs low. The AMPC enables companies to meet this challenge through the development of flexible laser processes and equipment that are optimized to meet their materials processing needs. As a result, our customers can replace complex, multi-step materials cutting, engraving and marking processes with a simple and flexible laser process, allowing them to bring new products to the market quickly and much more profitably.
The center consists of a Demonstration Laboratory and a Development Laboratory. These two departments provide the capabilities to demonstrate state of the art laser processing of material that are optimized for a particular application.
The center is staffed by Laser Applications and Material Engineers who work together to develop the laser cutting, marking and engraving processes that provide the optimum solution for each material's processing application. The staff works closely with the customer to understand the performace requirements for the application and with the materials supplier to understand and optimize the laser interaction with each material. The integrated approach provides for rapid development of flexible laser processes for a wide variety of materials.
